ABOUT
Fourteen years of export compliance decisions
After more than a decade working in export compliance across defence, aerospace, semiconductors and technology, I’ve learned that knowing the regulations is only part of the job. The real skill is knowing how to apply them and being able to explain, document and defend the decisions you make.
My experience spans product classification and licensing, building internal compliance programmes across multiple jurisdictions, supporting government audits, and helping businesses work through complex regulatory questions. Over those years, I kept seeing the same gap: most training explains what the regulations say, but very little teaches professionals how to actually reach a decision they can stand behind. That’s why I created the Export Compliance Academy. I developed the C.L.E.A.R. Export Compliance Framework as a practical, structured approach to help professionals move from an unclear compliance question to a well-reasoned, documented and defensible decision.
How I work
Plainly, and in the real world. I teach with real enforcement cases and the boundary calls that actually trip people up — the dual-use entry that looks military, the licence exception that doesn’t apply.
Today, I use that experience to help trade and compliance professionals understand how export controls work in practice, strengthen their judgment and make complex decisions with greater confidence and independence.
My goal is not simply to teach regulations. It’s to teach you how to think like an Export Compliance professional.
